What's Cuter Than a Penguin? A Penguin Pumpkin!

MelBivDevoe

Just in time for you to start your Halloween planning, here are 37 pumpkin decorating ideas that require no carving.  My favorite - that cute lil' guy to the left.  (BuzzFeed)

Oooh, this dragon claw bracelet is a total must-have. (The Mary Sue)

I can't tell if this article is praising Emma Watson for bringing back the dress-over-pants trend, or merely commenting on it.  Was that a trend that really needed to be revived??  (Styleite)

"Law & Order: SVU" will be doing a "50 Shades of Grey" themed episode this year.  I honestly did not know that show was still on the air.  Huh.  (The Gloss)

I'm the Edge, I'm the Chic, I'm the Taste

MelBivDevoe

Speaking of fashion, two of our favorite bloggers, Tom and Lorenzo, were recently featured in a fabulous New York Times interview.  I love that, after 6 years of blogging major events like NewYork's Fashion Week, they still get starstruck.  (NY Times)

I'm gonna take advantage of this space to ask for some help, guys.  Metric Jenn's dog Shoes is participating in a contest called the Fido Casting Call 2.  If you have 30 seconds, please click this link to vote for him!  For every vote clicked, the contest will donate a dollar to Dog Guides Canada, so everyone wins here!  The contest ends September 10th.

One more contest request, then it's back to the links.  Home Instead Senior Care is offering a free cruise to a deserving caregiver.  Clara, a woman whose husband has early onset Alzheimer's, could really use our help to win that free vacation.  Click here to vote through September 15th.  And thank you for your help!

Back to your regularly scheduled links!  Look, Muppet balloon animals!  If I had a Swedish Chef balloon, I'd be the happiest kid on Earth.  (Dog and Pony Show)

Like a Drunken Punch-Up at a Wedding

MelBivDevoe

Boy, the only thing this list of  reasons why everyone hated your wedding is missing is "because you invited horribly bitchy guests like this author."  Damn!  If you don't like the required dress code or some other petty detail, don't go to the wedding!  Easy peasy!  (The Gloss)

After the snarky commenters over at Amazon to tore down Bic's rather sexist "For Her" line of pens, Linda Holmes at NPR came up with a few  ladies-only product suggestions of her own.  #7 is brilliant.  (NPR)

He's So Hot, He's Making Me Sexist

MelBivDevoe

You know who has a fly booty?  Prince Harry.  Of course, if you're in the UK, the royal family is doing everything in their power to prevent you from knowing that.  Lucky for us (nsfw), they can't do a thing about the media that's outside of the Queen's reach.  I love how everyone is blaming Harry's handlers - like he's not a grown-ass man who should know that EVERYONE has camera phones these days!  (Celebitchy

In the mood for some more scandals?  The Cut has a great slideshow of the "50 Most Scandalous Dresses in History."  Ok, they're not all dresses, per se, but a lot of them were very memorable moments in fashion (and pop culture) history.  (The Cut)

This high school valedictorian isn't getting her diploma because she said "hell" in her graduation speech.  Heaven forbid!  (The Gloss)

World's Most Famous Party Crasher Announces Summer Tour (In My Dreams)

MelBivDevoe

Oh, how I wish this first story were true.  If it were, I'd start making my sign right now.  I would LOVE to have Bill Murray crash at my place.  Who wouldn't want to sing karaoke with him??  (Super Official News)

This, on the other hand, is a true story, sadly.  Apparently, two strip clubs in Florida are fighting over the "right" to feature Octomom Nadya Suleman as a dancer.  Why on Earth would you want to pay money to watch that woman strip?  (HuffPo)

Ugh, I feel icky from that last link.  Time for a cute chaser!  Here's a slideshow of a Shar Pei who took in a couple of abandoned tiger cubs.  (SF Gate)

You Spin My Head Round: A Proposed Theory on Fashion Cycles

Rusty

Fashion moves in cycles. This has long been known, and yet many people seem to puzzle over the exact cause.

I have a theory.

I developed this theory after seeing what Miley Cyrus was wearing at the Hunger Games premiere and having a violent flashback to sometime in around 1997. And I thought to myself “Why on earth would Miley Cyrus be raiding Gwen Stefani’s 90’s formal wear? How old was she?”

So I looked it up. Miley Cyrus was (according to the internet) born in 1992. In the late 90s she would have been about elementary school age.

In Defense of Pantyhose: Rusty Explains Her Shiny Choice

Rusty

Pantyhose have gotten thrown under the bus this decade. Mostly categorized as something you’re forced to wear to church or when your grandmother visits, it seems that an awful lot of women are comfortable with discarding pantyhose (or stockings) in favor of their younger, cooler cousin, tights. Fashion gurus like Tim Gunn have said there is no reason to EVER wear sheer or nude pantyhose.

I disagree.

Here are my arguments in favor of pantyhose:

InStyle Magazine for February: Barrymore, Louboutins, and Boredom

Pinky McLadybits

Drew Barrymore is InStyle's February 2012 cover girl. While looking for a nice photo of the cover to share with all of you, I found that Barrymore is engaged. Again. Dude, I still thought she was dating Justin Long. These guys really jump the gun on trying to lock these actresses down. Dumbasses.

I would also like to go on record as saying that I hate Drew's hair. I really hate that this whole "purposely dark roots and lighter ends" thing has gone from trailer to chic. Ombre? Whatevs.

Anyway, this month's cover proclaims SEXIER BY TONIGHT: 10 SHORTCUTS TO HOT! THE NEW RULES OF FIGURE FLATTERY! 20 SUPER AMAZING SHOES! INSTANTLY DOUBLE YOUR WARDROBE OPTIONS!

They really need to get someone over the age of 14 to write their cover blurbs. And maybe invest in some lowercase letters. Please and thank you.

J’adore Dior - My eyes! My beautiful eyes!

Author: Metric Jenn

Yes, yes, I know that the tag line J'adore Dior is from Dior’s perfume line, and Carrie from Sex and the City RUINED that cute shirt by prancing around like a deranged be-tutued hobo. Never-the-less, Dior has endured as a classic house of fashion for many, many reasons. Accessibility is actually one of them, despite being so closely associated with higher designer prices, The French, excess and celebrity. My first Dior purchase was a pair of sunglasses that I’d seen on Pam Anderson. My friend also had them and it must have registered in my brain, but she described them as being Nicole Richie - associated, so I assumed mine were shaped differently or something. Nope. They were the same sunglasses! Dammit. Friend-faux-pas aside, I anxiously awaited the order to arrive.
