Not Just Expensive Dust: Afterglow Organic Infused Mineral Foundation

Dixie

I am notoriously picky about my foundation makeup. About ten years ago I stopped wearing liquid makeup because I couldn't find a formula that didn't feel like a thin plastic covering on my face in the Florida humidity. After scoffing at the Bare Minerals informercials for ages, I went up to the closest Sephora and bought a starter kit for the Bare Minerals mineral makeup and haven't looked back to liquid foundation since.

However, being the picky consumer that I am, once I discovered that the bullshit ingredient bismuth oxychloride was the culprit in the breakouts on my face, I switched once again to Everyday Minerals.

Time to Get My MAC On: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish Natural Powder

Rusty

Make up is a tricky and very personal thing. I’ve never liked the feeling of having “stuff” on my face, and for all of high school the only time I ever wore make up was for color guard performances or dances, so I never trained myself to the point where I was able to ignore it.

Since becoming an adult I’ve done my best to stick to products that let me appear to be wearing make up while not actually giving me the dreaded ‘make up’ feeling. MAC’s Mineralize Skinfinish Natural has been excellent in helping me achieve this goal.

Date Night: Products For Getting Some

Pinky and the Ladies of Hot Ink

Via Clockwork Hare

I'm not totally sure what a date night is, but I think it is when you get dressed up and go somewhere with a significant other. Maybe dinner, drinks, a movie or a play? I don't know. I think I had a date night last year...I think.

Anyway, most people get these date nights and we want to make sure that you look your absolute best. This way you can get some if you want it or look so good that you can ditch a crappy date for someone better. WIN-WIN!

Now, these will all be makeup and makeup tips. We'll give you another list with grooming tips, like brows, legs, AHEM areas, and such, another time. For now, enjoy these Hot Ink approved cosmetics!

Maybelline Dream Smooth Mousse: Do You Want To Touch Me?

Pinky McLadybits

After reading Kolby's review of Maybelline's Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation and checking out the price online, I decided I needed to get some for myself. I had purchased some Cover Girl foundation that was supposed to be for sensitive skin, but it looked like shit on.

Target had three different types of the Maybelline Dream Mousse Foundation: Liquid, Smooth, and Matte. The Liquid is for Normal Skin types, Smooth is for Normal to Dry, and Matte is for Normal to Oily. I chose the Smooth because, even with moisturizer that works really well, applying foundation tends to highlight every flake that was invisible before application.

Maybelline Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation - Smooth as Babyface's Greatest Hits

Kolby

The very first time I tried liquid foundation I was thirteen years old. The only product I'd ever heard of at that age was Cover Girl Clean Makeup, and I don't know if it was the texture or tint of the makeup, or the heavy hand I used in applying it, but it looked enough like a Halloween mask that I washed it off and never again tried liquid foundation for, ah, a few years. I used only powder foundations throughout my twenties, and my skin has always been oily enough for powders to work well for me all year long.

Recently, though, I noticed that as the weather has grown cooler, my skin has gotten a bit drier, and my go-to powder foundation no longer compliments my skin the way I'd like it to. So, I've decided to conquer my fear of liquid foundation, and I've begun this journey by trying a drug store brand (I'm not too keen on shelling out $20+ on a department store brand of makeup if it's something I'll use once and then toss out in disgust), and it turns out the foundations they're offering in stores today are quite a bit different from the selection that was available to the 8th Grade version of Kolby.

Ask Ink: Light Foundation for Dry, Fair Skin

This week's question via email:

"My question, I've been using MAC Studio Fix as the only product on my face for years. I don't like regular foundation (I find it goopy and heavy feeling) and I've always had good skin, so the lightness of it worked for me. As I get older, I think my skin needs more help. I'm very fair and tend towards dry skin. Suggestions on products?"
