Hot Minute Review: CoverGirl LashBlast Luxe

Dixie

I just can't with this product, you guys. What's even the point? Before I bought it, I should have stopped to think about how a shimmery mascara would turn out on my lashes, but luckily for the content of this site I didn't.

There just aren't a whole lot of words I can muster about the new CoverGirl LashBlast Luxe Mascara. In general, I really like the Lash Blast line. I've used the Fusion, the 24 Hour, and the Volume, all with great success. But the Luxe? Not so much. It applies very much like the Fusion - no clumping, no flaking, no smudging. But the shimmer. Why? It doesn't sparkle or shimmer at all. The only thing the shimmer accomplishes is reflecting light away from your lashes, making your lashes disappear. And that's the opposite of what mascara is supposed to do!

In short, don't buy this product. Just don't. With the other great options available from the Last Blast line, there just is no reason to waste your hard-earned cash. 0/8 tentacles. Boo.

Rating: 0/8 tentacles

Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara: Green Good?

Dixie

I will never learn. I mean, I try but I don't. One day I'll learn to stick with the mascara that works, but until that day I will continue to peruse the mascara sections of the drugstore, looking for a new and possibly exciting formula to share with you Hot Inkers. Now, I'm kind of a secret hippie; we all know this. So when I saw the Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Mascara on sale, I might have squealed in the middle of CVS. Just a little. Not loud enough for the lady browsing in the vitamins and supplements aisle to hear me. Ahem. After my squeal, I was skeptical, but decided to buy it anyway. Hot Ink gives me an excuse to experiment.

Potions Never Looked So Good: Urban Decay Tinted Eyeshadow Primer

Rusty

I realize that Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion has already been reviewed, but I felt that this version of it deserved its own review. Yes, it’s a primer potion that keeps your eyeshadow in place and lets you sail through your day without worrying that you’re getting those incredibly attractive clumps of pigment in the creases of your eyes. Do you know what’s even better? A primer potion that keeps your eyeshadow in place and also immediately negates its own extra step in the beautification process.

Arbonne Sheer Glow Highlighter: I'm Glowing Here!

Pinky McLadybits

One of the things I learned while getting my brows done at Benefit was highlighting the brow bone. Benefit has an amazing pencil just for that purpose, but I was already dropping serious cash on They're Real and Brow Zings. Plus I knew I already had this Arbonne Sheer Glow Highlighter at home.

This is part of the loot I won while at an Arbonne even with my pal Stephanie. I had been struggling with the best way to use the Highlighter. Under my eyes? Meh. On my cheeks? Not too bad. Definitely not on lips or eyelids or other places.

Highlighter for my brow bone though? That should work.

Benefit They're Real! Mascara: Squeeze Them!

Pinky McLadybits

I've been lazy with my eyebrows because my new bangs cover them pretty well. I decided to take charge and get myself to the Benefit Brow Bar at the local mall. I'll tell you more about that later.

This product was sold to me after the brow session (they are good at the Benefit counter) when I was handed off to one of the makeup girls. Benefit's They're Real Beyond Mascara was the big sell and I was told twice about the amazing brush that applied this game-changing mascara. When the makeup girl grabbed the mascara to demo it, of course they were out of the fancy disposable applicators and she had to use a regular brush.

Let Your Eyes Do The Talking: Tarte SmoulderEYES Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliner

Cindy

In my pre-holiday shopping excitement (I made a resolution to try using make-up a little more often), I bought a few items I'd been wanting to try for a while. One of them was a limited edition holiday set of the well-reviewed Tarte Amazonian Clay Waterproof Eyeliners.

After having tried and fallen in love with their LipSurgence collection, I read about these sparkly eyeliners and thought I'd take a chance. If you decide try the Tarte products, take advantage of their value sets which often cost the same as a single item in the same category. For instance, I got a set of five lip tint pencils for $29.00, the same price as one and here I got a set of five eyeliners for $29.00; a single eyeliner usually costs $25.00. Check around for deals at Sephora and QVC, as well as Tarte's own site.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance: Holy Unmovable Eye Shadow, Batman!

Metric Jenn

You know how you love something so much that you just want to tell EVERYONE about it?! This is totally that product. Too Faced Shadow Insurance is ah-may-zing. How on EARTH did I live this long without this product? Not only that, but why wasn't I told about this product the second someone saw me browsing the eyeshadow section of Sephora?

It was a gross oversight on about 400 sales people's part that I haven't been using/purchasing this product for the past 2 decades. Now don't go skipping this review, just because I'm praising - there's more info for you all after the jump. Information that you must know! *dun dun dunnnnnnnnnn*

Watch Me Wave My Magic (Mascara) Wand!: Maybelline Lash Stiletto Voluptuous

 Replica

I have a lot of hangups with this type of thing - I don't wear lower lash color since it melts on my face and I feel like Bimbo the Clown. I also have colorless lashes so unless you dig that stuff right in there, I get a weird halo effect around the eyes that is mildly disconcerting. And for some strange reason, I only ever see about six options in the black, so black, blackedy-dark-blue black, coal black, black as my skeptical soul, and ...blackest black? categories. Oh - and the ever-useful electric blue category, but wherefore art mine browns?

Tweezer Pleaser - Tweezerman Slant Tweezers

Vee

I am blessed to have my father's eyebrows. In my natural state it looks like two caterpillers crawled across my forehead and stopped right above my eyes (thanks, Dad!). I've plucked, waxed and threaded them down to about half their original glory, but I have a lot of maintenence in the old eyebrow area.

I tried countless drugstore tweezers from Revlon to those knock off cheapies. About 10 years ago I finally bit the bullet and bought the most expensive ones, the $20 Tweezerman Slant Tweezers . Ladies, I've never regreted it. These little guys are my eyebrow tool holy grail.

The Opposite of Stay Puft: Clinique's All About Eyes De-Puffing Serum

Rusty

Eyes can get puffy for a lot of reasons; allergies, other illnesses, overindulgence in certain beverages the previous evening, crying, lack of sleep, lack of caffeine, etc. The important thing is not why your eyes are puffy, but how to get to the point where you can leave the house without looking like you’ve taken to keeping a spare set of cotton balls shoved up above your cheeks.

I bought Clinique’s All About Eyes Serum several months ago in order to get a gift with purchase that was totally worth the expenditure. The Clinique saleswoman sold me the eye serum by mentioning the stainless steel applicator ball at the top and pointing out that you could refrigerate the tube in order to chill the ball down and increase its effectiveness the same way that boxers use cold stainless steel compresses to relieve swelling during fights.

Revlon Lash Fantasy Total Definition Mascara: Yes, please.

Tamatha

Given my affinity for all things natural, you might be surprised that A) I buy pretty much all my make-up at the drug store and B) I am a seriously loyal Revlon customer. It all started back in 1990 when Revlon was one of the first big make-up companies to stop testing on animals. I wanted to support this great move on their part, so I started buying their products pretty exclusively. And I've been supporting them ever since.*

I've tried a few of Revlon's mascaras over the years, and the Lash Fantasy (terrible name aside) is my favorite. *Especially* since it now has my favorite style of mascara wand--the kind with the rubber bristles. These flexible bristles are so much better than the traditional, stiffer ones.

CoverGirl LashBlast Lengths Mascara: CLASH OF LASH(es)

Pinky McLadybits

Full disclosure: I have a brother-in-law that works for Procter & Gamble. He brings bags of goodies to family get-togethers. Like Thanksgiving. Does that mean that I'll kiss the product's butt and lie to you about it? Um, no. No it doesn't. He doesn't work in sales anyway. Ahem.

So, one of the many things I snatched was given from the bag of goodies was this CoverGirl LashBlast Length in Very Black. I already have mascara, but the price of FREE and the ability to review the product for you guys was enough incentive to give it a try. You may also remember that Nora already reviewed this product. Will I feel the same about it? WILL IT BE A CLASH OF THE LASHES?!? I dunno.

Just remember, I'll never break your heart. I'll never make you cry...baby, that's no lie.

Why So Serious? (Dry Those Eyes)

Author: Metric Jenn

I've been crying a lot lately. I will not disclose the reasons, but instead offer you this picture as an insight into my tortured soul:

Do you see the pain and angst?
