Urban Decay Naked Palette

Vee

The Urban Decay Naked palette is a classic for a reason. There are a great variety of shimmery neutrals and classic colors. If you are just starting your makeup collection or if you are looking for a comprehensive palette, Naked is worth a try.

The set comes with 12 eyeshadows, a mini primer potion and an eyeshadow brush. I'm a longtime fan of UD's eye primer, so I loved the pocket-sized mini. I was shocked at the high quality of the brush, as most kits contain subpar applicators. I wouldn't use it to apply all my eyeshadow, but the flat shape and smooth bristles would be great for applying shadow to your crease when you want a precise shape. The whole shebang costs $50.

All Day, Every Day: Urban Decay 24/7 Pencil Eyeliner

Rusty

Pencil eyeliner is inherently scary. You’re holding an object with some sort of point right above your eye and attempting to smear pigment in solid form on the very delicate upper eyelid.

If you’re the sort of person who lines your waterline (the tiny lip of skin along the bottom lid next to your eye and above your bottom lash line) then you’re getting even closer to what seems line inevitable eye irritation disasters. Having an eyeliner with pigment that spreads smoothly while maintaining it’s pencil shaped integrity makes it a lot less scary.

This is why I love Urban Decay’s 24/7 pencil eyeliners.

Potions Never Looked So Good: Urban Decay Tinted Eyeshadow Primer

Rusty

I realize that Urban Decay’s Eyeshadow Primer Potion has already been reviewed, but I felt that this version of it deserved its own review. Yes, it’s a primer potion that keeps your eyeshadow in place and lets you sail through your day without worrying that you’re getting those incredibly attractive clumps of pigment in the creases of your eyes. Do you know what’s even better? A primer potion that keeps your eyeshadow in place and also immediately negates its own extra step in the beautification process.

My Beauty Must Have: Urban Decay Eyeshadow

Rusty

There are few beauty products that I feel absolutely married to. No matter how well something works, I’m almost always willing to give another brand a try, especially if it’s cheaper. It’s not that I don’t have product or brand loyalty, I’m just more curious to see how different products work out for me. The one area of cosmetics where I’m hitting and sticking, though, is Urban Decay eyeshadows.

I’ve mentioned the eyeshadows in a lot of my tutorials because they’re almost the only eyeshadows I own. The other ones were bought for me by someone else. There’s a few reasons for this, and they are:

Stay! Good Boy: Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion

Figgy

I think I might have mentioned before that I'm kind of a complete noob when it comes to makeup. For years and years I refused to wear any, up until the point where I realized that, hot damn, do I look good with some black eyeliner and mascara on. And then I was hooked. I still wear very little makeup, but I do so every day for work, and I'm discovering new things every day. It's fun.

One of the things I discovered is eyeshadow creasing. This is when the shadows you put on your lids seem to fade and pool around on the crease of your eyes. It's nasty and kinda makes you look like a drag queen. We've all been there.

Enter Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. At one point I was skeptical, specially of having to put yet another layer of goop on my face. But this thing works, and it works like a damned miracle.

Ask Ink: Green Eyeshadow for Pale Redheads with Hazel Eyes

This week's question via email:

"So I'm a light-skinned, fake redhead with hazel eyes that loves rocking some green eyeshadow every once in a while. However, some of the greens are just too...green! I feel like my eyes disappear and look wonky behind my glasses. I remember I once found the right green, but I don't know what made it work. Should I be looking for a warmer green? Just using it as an accent? If it's just an accent, what other colors would I be using? Please help me, Hot Ink!"

As a pale redhead with hazel eyes, one of the things I’ve learned is that when it comes to any color of eyeshadow you generally want to stick to rich colors. I’ve found that light colors next to dark eyes, even on a pale face, won’t stand out so you want something a bit more assertive that will show up enough to combat the charming black hole effect that happens to me sometimes. I’ve made a video where I do two different looks with green eyeshadow, one for daytime and one for nighttime. While doing the makeup I talk some about what choices I’ve made with these looks so you can apply the concepts to other colors. Enjoy!
