Why'd You Have To Wait: Last Minute Costumes

Pinky McLadybits

No.

I chose a Halloween costume early, but then I got cold feet and tried to brainstorm new ideas with the help of Facebook friends. I also thought up a few on my own while I was trolling stores, looking at everything they had and attempting to decide if the item would help me make a costume.

In the end, I decided to go with my original idea, which is Wichita from Zombieland. Maybe you'd like to be her as well? I suppose you could last minute her fairly easily.

Tuesday Links... Now With More Science!

MelBivDevoe

Good morning!  This is an amazing story to start your day off with - a woman lost her ear to cancer, so her doctors grew her a new one (using her own tissue)... on her arm!  F*ck yeah, science!  (CBS)

Does sugar really make kids hyper?  I've always been suspicious of that old myth myself.  (Mind the Science Gap)

Great Godtopus!  Turns out the vampire squid may not be as fearsome as its namesake after all.  Dig these gorgeous shots of it in action!  (National Geographic)

I'm feeling the science imagery this morning.  Here's a stunning collection of photos taken of/from space this past month.  (Time)

I'll Send an SOS to the World...

MelBivDevoe

In April, a man in the Shetland Islands found a message in a bottle that has recently been certified as the oldest one ever found.  It spent 98 years floating before it was pulled from the sea.  Have you ever found and/or responded to a message in a bottle?  (National Geographic)

Well, this is certainly another way to send a message.  A woman in New Zealand, recently divorced, sent her wedding ring into space on a homemade rocket.  Definitely more poetic than simply pawning the ring.  (io9)

This charming video comes to us via KatSings.  There's something for everyone here, whether you're a fan of Sesame Street, Doctor Who, the Avengers, Newsroom, the Hunger Games, or just enjoy a catchy tune.  (EW)

T. Rex.  High.  Heels.  YES.  I wish there were more details available about these shoes, like who made them and how can I buy them??  (The Gloss)

Bill Murray is My Spirit Guide

MelBivDevoe

Good morning!  Some days, you wake up and think, eh, I'm just not feeling it today.  That's me today.  So, let's ease into things, shall we?

How about the most adorable photo of a baby gorilla ever to get us started?  Man, that stethoscope must've been cold, look at that expression!  I just want to smush his widdle face!  (Buzzfeed)

Here's a gallery of the stars who have stopped by Sesame Street over the years.  Man, I loved Lily Tomlin's Edith Ann when I was little! (EW)

Josh Hutcherson, best known as Peeta from "The Hunger Games," is auctioning off the chance for five lucky winners to have dinner with him.  Proceeds from the auction will benefit a paralyzed young woman who attended his alma mater.  Forget the gorilla, I want to smush Josh's cute widdle face!  I would totally enter that contest myself, but it might be weird if a 29 year old woman showed up to dinner and just gawked at him all night.  (Crushable)

Let's Ponder the Great Questions Together. What, It's Better Than Working!

MelBivDevoe

It's Wednesday. Time for some introspection. Are you a Chaos Muppet or an Order Muppet? (Slate)

As an Order Muppet, I feel obliged to remind you that Father's Day is this Sunday.  Need some ideas for gifts?  Here's 50 to get you started.  (Men's Health)

You know, when I was a kid, we didn't have a CD player in our car (let alone MP3 player hookups!), which meant we couldn't enjoy any fantastic audiobooks on our road trips.  Kids today don't know how good they have it.  (NPR)

I Think We Have 14 Pounds Of Easter Candy and 10 Pounds Of Ham.

Pinky McLadybits

Sadly, 60 Minutes anchor Mike Wallace passed away yesterday. He was 93. Here are some of his best interviews. (The Stir)

I hope you had a great Sunday, whether you celebrated Easter or not. Let's look at the only acceptable use for Peeps: AWESOME DIORAMAS! (Comics Alliance)

I'm sad that I didn't think to geek-up my Easter eggs. I did have one dyed a lovely TARDIS blue! (Geek Sugar)

Easter Is Sunday! I Hope You've Claimed A Place For Free Food!

Behold! Controversial magazine covers deemed too cray for newsstands! (mental floss)

A dress that becomes see-through when a woman is aroused? It isn't our fault we don't get boners! Why would I wear this?? (Studio Roosegaard)

I would like to one day buy a city, too. I would treat it like rental property and kick out assholes. I would likely be very lonely in my town. But free from annoyance! (Huffington Post)

I could buy this one! (Hollywood Reporter)

This is just disturbing. So disturbing. I promise that my town will not use citizens for research of plagues or anything. Yeesh. (NY Times)

This Lolcat Represents How I Feel About Today. Also, IT'S SO FREAKING CUTE!

Mel Biv Devoe

Happy Wednesday, y'all.  Is it me or is this week just slooooooowly dragging along?  You could probably use a pick-me-up or twelve.  So I found these links for you.  Because I'm a frickin' sweetheart sometimes.

Let's get things started with some bracket fun!  I don't mean NCAA brackets - lord knows mine are all shot to hell (damn it, Michigan State!).  Over on io9, you can vote for the Worst Science Fiction Movie Ever!  (io9)

Well, of course Jesus is preapproved.  People have been giving him credit for YEARS.  (Consumerist)

Anyone who's pregnant or has been pregnant can relate to this hilarious article from Courtney Enlow.  And those of us who haven't been, we can learn from it (or get our tubes tied from fear, whatever).  (Pajiba)

Skies Are Blue, Bees Are Buzzing, My Sinuses Are Driving Me Crazy - Must Be Spring!

MelBivDevoe

MelBiv here, trying my hand at serving up some tasty Hot Links for you.  It's Wednesday - just a few more days until the weekend!  Let these links be your guide today and help you while away the hours.

Spring is here!  Celebrate the season with these frolicking lambs!  (Cute Overload)

Nothing says "springtime" like flowers in bloom.  Here's a lovely collection of photos in honor of the 100th anniversary of Washington, D.C.'s Cherry Blossom Festival going on now through April 27th.  (Washington Post)

Feel Kind Of Tingly, Like When I Climb The Rope In Gym Class

Pinky McLadybits

Yo - Metric Jenn here; Pinky had an intro where she apologized for being crap at links. Well, I'm here to say that she's being too modest. She is cool and funny and better at links than I could ever be, as evidenced by the incredible compilation below. So you all are going to shut up, click on every one of these links and LIKE IT. Because I say so. And I'm smart and pretty. Prettier than Pinky, but that's a story for another day.

Let's start with a trip down memory lane. Here is an article about The Ren & Stimpy Show. Oh, Billy West. YOU RULE. (Split Sider)

This Wednesday Needs More Cowbell. Possibly Some Nudity Too.

Kolby and Pinky

If you need a(nother) reason to get boozy on St. Patrick's Day, here's how to concoct a Shamrock Shake Shot.  Oh yes.  (Glitter, Glue and Gluttony)

And in case you needed a reason to get boozy today, this collection of every single one of Bart Simpson's chalkboard quotes is sure to drive you to drink long before you reach the end.  (The Social Feed)

As someone who spent a few years working in government, I can tell you that this infographic on how lobbying works is, sadly, so very true.  (visual.ly)

Okay, so John Carter (of Mars, dammit) doesn't suck?  I should see it?  In an actual theater?  Huh.  Well.  Okay.  (Wired)

Tom Hardy: Momma Like!! Oh, And Some Links Too...

Pinky McLadybits

Tom Hardy greets you on this, the first of March. No reason. Except that he's gorgeous.

Here's some more gorgeous stuff, though I'm less inclined to dream about them tonight. Photos of fashion throughout history. (Old Rags)

Well, maybe I'll dream about wearing one of those dresses while being courted by Hardy. Yes. That sounds good. I'll aim for 8 hours, unlike these people that split their sleep into 2 chunks and occupy themselves in-between. (BBC News)

Ah, The Hunger Games. I adored the books and I am looking forward to the movie(s). Check out these photos and become either more excited or finally excited. (Pajiba)

If Mark Wahlberg Were Here, He Would Have Stopped This Post

Pinky McLadybits

BeautifulSwearWords.com
I haven't been able to enjoy the Second Coming (heh heh, coming..) of Beavis and Butthead, as I don't have cable or satellite right now. LAME. Makeup effects artist Kevin Kirkpatrick clearly likes them too, since he made these real-life bust-mask hybrids of them. Butthead totally looks like a kid I went to school with.(reddit

After that, here's something a lot less terrifying. Which company is this: The company argues that it's hard to hire the best people in the world when the state where it's based discriminates against them. (The Atlantic)

Here's another piece that blames the entertainment industry for people choosing to pirate movies. What do you think? (GIGAOM)

Now wrap your head around this: Russia was spied on...by a rock. I shit you not. (Canada.com)

Hot Links: Real Disney Princesses & Fancy Nail Polish

Pinky McLadybits

Jirka Vinse Jonatan Väätäinen has created realistic versions of Disney Princesses, like Tiana over there, using photo manipulation. Check out his other works on his blog.

Did you love the trailer for The Hunger Games? I cannot wait until March! Almost as good though, China Glaze is releasing Hunger Games-inspired polishes in February! I'll take one of each, please.

Dustin, Head Honcho at Pajiba, is celebrating his birthday today. By declaring it Butthole Day. I love that man.

Want to feel really old? Me neither, but Mental Floss's list of 11 Sounds That Your Kids Have Probably Never Heard made me feel older than John McCain.

Hot Links: No More Crying Over Spilled Milk!

Pinky McLadybits

Sugarbelle makes Star Wars cookies using holiday cookie cutters. Adorkable!

Have you ever wished for waterproof clothing? Wish no more, Gizmodo shows us the superhydrophobic coating in action!

I have loved Peter Dinklage ever since he blew me away in The Station Agent. He is definitely amazing in A Game of Thrones, though Tyrion himself doesn't consider the work to be fantasy.
