No, I never learn. EVER. I was at Target, browsing the clearance endcaps like one does, when I spotted L'Oreal's Nail Stickers. Apparently the brand teamed with Project Runway to create these python-inspired nail stickers called Seductive Temptress. Since the price was now $2.38 marked down from $7.99 and since this isn't *technically* nail polish, I was sold. 

I had just painstakingly painted my nails, following all of the tips and rules people have given me. Base coat, two coats of polish, top coat, make sure that the polish goes over the edges of nails, etc. And that shit chipped in less than 12 hours. I was ready to give press on nail color another go.

EverStyle Curl Activating Mousse: More Like NeverStyle

I tend to stick to the John Frieda line of curl products.  They've served me well over the years.  But the last time I went to pick up some curl activating mousse, I strayed from my usual stuff to try L'Oreal's EverStyle version instead.  Why?  For the simplest of reasons: I had a coupon.  And, sure, it sounded good.  It promised to give me full, bouncy curls without frizz and without the nasty stickiness that so many hair products produce.

When, when, WHEN will I learn that cheaper isn't always better?  That sometimes paying for better quality is worth it?

 I guess I'm just slow sometimes.

Curl Up and Dye: L'Oreal's Excellence Creme

After a several months long break from dying my hair, I decided to give it a shot again because I had some stuff coming up for which having distinctly two tone hair seemed like a poor choice. (Although that’s sort of “in” now, isn’t it? Well, whatever.) I decided to try a new hair dye this time around and so instead of the Feria dye that I’d been using, I picked up L’Oreal’s Excellence Creme in 8RB.

The first thing I noticed as I was reading through the instructions was that the box included some things I’d never seen before in my years of home hair dying; a comb tip for the dye bottle and a pre-treatment for dry or damaged hair that you were supposed to apply to your hair before you put the dye on. I put the pre-treatment on the ends of my hair, which are prone to dryness and set about mixing up the dye.

Now that I'm back in the habit of coloring my hair regularly, it's important to me to find products that not only prevent the color from washing out quickly but also restore moisture to my hair.  I love coloring my hair, just like I love straightening it when I want, and in order to continue doing these things I need to make sure my hair is healthy and not a dry, brittle mess. 

So it's no surprise that when I saw L'Oreal's EverPure Moisture Conditioner, I grabbed a bottle.  The packaging proclaims the conditioner is part of the company's sulfate-free color care system.  I knew that sulfates can strip your hair of its natural oils, but apparently they can also strip your hair color, so EverPure seemed like a great choice.

This is seriously the most emotionally confusing product I've ever used. I think I'm in love with it. But it treats me badly. It's like...if only I learn how to be good at it, it and I - I and it - will be happy together forever and ever. And it will stop leaving me with a bruised-looking undereye.

Now, I, who have been wearing makeup since I was freaking three (kid actor - which explains all the things) can barely operate this eyeshadow. But I'm telling you, the more I use it and get used to it, the more I LOVE it. Hard love. Intense. If it's wrong, I don't want counseling.

I recently ran out of my fancy Clarins cleanser, and I had a decision to make. Either shill out too much money for what's basically soap for your face, or try to find something that would do the job for a whole lot less money. Off to Target I went, and spent...good lord, way too much time trying to find something that looked like it would work. I kept landing on the L'Oreal Go 360 Clean (good god, what a stupidly long name for a product) with the little attached scrublet. I admit I picked it out mostly because I had seen the ads for it and I remembered thinking "Huh, that's a clever little gimmick for lazy bums who think that, sometimes, scrubbing with your fingers is SO MUCH WORK."

Earlier this year I got the idea to lighten my own hair. I regularly dye my own hair, so I thought nothing of trying to take my long dark brown hair to a light golden brown.
