When given the choice between generic and name brand items, I usually choose the generic. I'm cheap. If I can buy an item - say, a makeup remover - that has the exact same ingredients as the pricey brand stuff, then I will buy the cheaper version because it should work the same.
Should. Should work the same.
I recently started using Equate Oil-Free eye Makeup Remover, which can be found at Walmart. This remover is supposed to be comparable to L'Oreal Eye Makeup Remover but for about 2/3 of the cost of the brand name stuff. And it does work, for the most part. But there's one major problem for me.
It doesn't remove waterproof mascara. Like, at all. And you must understand, I wear that stuff daily. In every season. Because I'm prone to cry at the drop of a hat.
I just have a lot of feelings, ok? |
Anyway... it's important that any eye makeup remover I use be able to remove the mascara from my eyes without me having to pull on my lashes (and inevitably lose a few while scrubbing. I only have so many to work with!).
This cleanser does remove my eyeshadow, eyeliner and under-eye concealer very easily. It only takes one swipe to get that stuff off. But it does absolutely NOTHING for the mascara. And then I wake up the next day looking like someone punched me in the face while I was sleeping. Not the prettiest sight to wake up to, I'm sure.
If you don't wear waterproof mascara, this remover might be perfect for you. But if you depend on the stuff like I do, you'll want to avoid Equate Oil-Free Eye Makeup Remover. I'm giving it a 4 out of 8 because it does a great job on shadow, liner, etc. But I'm disappointed that it's not a bargain for me after all.
Equate Oil-Free Makeup Remover retails for around $4 for 4 ounces in Walmart stores only.

I have the opposite problem with my bargain waterproof makeup remover. It works but it's oily! Try Neutrogena Fresh Foaming Cleanser. It's a facewash that gets even stubborn makeup off.
ReplyDeleteI'll look for that one next time. Thanks, Vee!
