Hot Tip: Puffy Eyes? Fake a Well-Rested Face!

Dixie and Vee

Ladies, we all have those nights - you drink too much, eat salty foods, or cry over Doctor Who (not that I've done that before, certainly never more than once. Ahem.) The next morning you wake up, you look like crap, and everybody at work asks, "Are you okay?" So, how do you avoid all of that? The answer: Fake it! Here's how:

First, drink a big glass of water and a cup of tea or coffee. The fluid and the caffeine will get to work while you're busy faking a good night's sleep and good, clean living.

Second, wrap some ice cubes in a towel and massage that over your eyes. The cold helps reduce swelling, the massage helps flush out the fluid.

Third, pat a caffeinated eye cream on your under-eye area and right below your brow bone. Rusty likes Clinique's All About Eyes serum. The caffeine applied directly to the puffy area will help constrict the swollen blood vessels and reduce the puffiness.

Fourth, before you apply your eye makeup, apply a primer to help your eyeshadow stay in place without creasing. For guidance, take a peek at Figgy and Rusty's reviews of the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potions.

Fifth, you want to give the appearance that your eyelid is creasing normally and not stuffed with marshmallows. To do this you will want to sweep a light-colored eyeshadow over your lid from lashline to browbone. Follow that with a darker eyeshadow in the crease or contour area. Those of you ladies with a larger surface area to work with on your eyelid can bring the outer edge of the dark eyeshadow down to meet your lashline in sort of a V-shape. Then use a light shimmery eyeshadow dabbed just in the inner corner of your eyes. It brightens them up.

Next, line your eyes like you normally do. On the outer corners of your eyes, use a darker color of eyeliner on both the upper and lower lids.

Lastly, dab a bit of highlighter on the inner corners of your eyes, then curl your lashes and apply lots of mascara.

And, violá! Eyes that appear less puffy!
