Crafty Ink: DIY Comic Book Shoes!

MelBivDevoe

My very own X-Men shoes!
A few weeks ago, I posted a link to some absolutely amazing comic book shoes that some enterprising tumblrer had decoupaged.  Now, I tend to collect do-it-yourself projects.  I have dozens and dozens of links bookmarked in the hopes that one day, I'll have the time (and money) to build my own bookcase or make my own tea towels, for example.  But these shoes were different.  I wanted them - no, I needed them.

So I did some research, estimated a cost for supplies, and set aside a weekend to work.  It only took me about $25 and one day to make my own, shown in this photo.  Would you like to learn how to make your own pair?  Then read on after the jump for instructions!

Bring On the Weekend! Bring On the Batman!

MelBivDevoe

Our hearts go out to the victims of the midnight shooting in Colorado and their families. (People)

Happy Friday!  Do you have your tickets ready for the premiere of "The Dark Knight Rises" this weekend?  Or have you already seen it at a midnight opening, you lucky ducks?  I won't be seeing it for a few days, which means it's time to avoid the internet again (I won't be spoiled!).

If you're in a Batman mood, take a trip down memory lane with this real-time review of Joel Schumacher's opus "Batman & Robin."  It's much better if you read this article instead of attempting to watch it yourself... well, better for you, at least.  (Pajiba)

Speaking of superheroes, these amazing retro art posters capture my favorite team, the X-Men, in eye-popping colors.   Who wouldn't want a "BAMF!" poster for their wall?? (Etsy)

Molecule, a new store in NYC, sells tap water.  That's it.  Just specially filtered, $2.50 for a 16-ounce bottle, tap water.  Choice quote from the article - "I think you'll have people who will start becoming water connoisseurs."  Uh.  Even if you add electrolytes and vitamins, it's just WATER.  Sheesh!  (WSJ)

I Wish I Had Ron Swanson's Work Ethic

Another Tony Awards has come and gone. We could discuss the award winners and how a small musical like Once beat a major player like Newsies and what impact that might have on future shows, but let's just look at the pretty dresses, shall we? (Vulture)

You know who looked super cute at the Tonys?  Emma Stone.  Here, she reveals her inspiration for her role as Gwen Stacy in the upcoming Spider-Man revamp, but holy crap, spoilers for anyone who never read the comics! (Crushable)

Less Links Means More Ogling The Hump Day List

I think we've all heard about Starbucks offering alcohol in select locations. I'm sick of hearing about it. I'd much rather this were the bigger Starbucks story. (That's Nerdalicious!)

I've been wanting this shower curtain and bath mat (ThinkGeek), but my husband says noooo. I wonder if he'd let me decorate the house with any of these...(Home Tone)

Speaking of red things, have you seen The Bloggess's Traveling Red Dress Project? It's still going strong. (The Bloggess)

Hoarding is bad, as anyone who has watched even a minute of the show Hoarders can attest. Messy, smelly, and liable to help your house burn to the ground. (Huffington Post)

Even worse than hoarding beer cans is hoarding animals. Keep in mind, all of these were hoarded in an apartment. (Sun Sentinal via Fark)
