Halloween is almost here.  Are you preparing by watching your favorite horror movies?  I love classics like "The Thing," but if you're looking for something a little more recent, here's a list of the 10 best horror flicks from the last two years.  Can't argue with #1! (Forbes)

Speaking of horror movies, here are the celebs you didn't want to see die in their respective films.  Spoilers abound, obviously.  (Crushable)

If you're really looking for a good scare, though, forget the movies.  Head to your library or bookstore and look for one of these spooky novels!  I definitely recommend any of H.P. Lovecraft's work if you want something to give you some lingering heebie-jeebies.  (io9)

As far as real life horror goes, the whole eastern seaboard is preparing for Hurricane Sandy to hit this week.  Please, if you're in the storm's predicted path, take precautions and stay safe!  (Boing Boing)

Robocop's Got Dancin' Feet!

According to a recent poll, 78% of viewers are enjoying Ryan Seacrest's coverage of the Olympics.  Apparently, they're also fans of Bob Costas, too.  Two things: one, where do they find the people who take these polls, and two, don't encourage NBC, for goodness sake, or it'll be all Seacrest, all the time!  (Washington Post) 

I think my next pet shall be a hedgehog.  We can even drink Lactaid together!  (Colossal)

Wendy's in Japan has started selling lobster and caviar sandwiches for $16 a pop.  Interesting, but I think I'll just stick with the Baconator.  (laist)

The Best American Short Stories 2011 edited by Geraldine Brooks

I was first introduced to this annual collection of short stories in 1998 when my roommate at the time was given a copy by her folks for Christmas. She made the mistake of leaving it out in the living room, where I picked it up and devoured it. I never realized how much I enjoy short stories, but that collection was eye-opening and fabulous. I've been asking for it every year for Christmas since. I highly recommend this collection, even if you don't think of yourself as a short story fan.
