Winter, though it is being fickle temperature-wise, is finally here. And your skin is probably freaking out. Dry. Chapped. Red. Gross. We know. Trust us, WE KNOW. We thought that since we're a newer site that maybe people haven't searched our archives to find information that they need.

Special K Cracker Chips: Step Aside, Potato Chips, There's a New Snack in Town

It's an uphill battle to get me to eat healthier.  I like fatty, greasy junk food.  And anything salty and crunchy, like potato chips.  Sometimes, for lunch, I'll just eat a big bag of chips and nothing else.  And then I wonder why my pants won't button.

So when the hubs brought home some Special K Cracker Chips the other day, I was intrigued.  (Full disclosure:  my hubs works part-time for Kellogg's and was given one free box of the Sour Cream & Onion to sample.)

CVS Non-Acetone Instant Polish Remover:

I despise the smell of nail polish remover. I fear that I'm breathing fumes that are stripping the lining of my major organs and causing them to initiate a revolt. That would be very not good. Non-acetone polish removers have a less nauseating smell and they are supposed to be better for you to use. Which is probably like saying sitting in raw sewage is better for you than eating it. 

I also get annoyed at the sheer volume of cotton balls or paper towels I need to use with a bottle of polish remover just to take care of one nail. It's ridiculous and I end up with tufts of cotton ball stuck to my hands. Although I was initially reluctant to purchase something that required me to shove my fingers in a wet hole repeatedly, I decided to try out CVS Non-Acetone Instant Polish Remover.

Nuance Salma Hayek Quinoa Smooth and Shine Conditioner

You guys, I am in love with Salma Hayek.  It has nothing to do with her acting abilities, her activism, her beautiful face, or her voluptuous curves.  No, I am in love with her for helping me finally (FINALLY!) get the smooth, sleek, shiny hair that I've always desired.

Earlier this year, Ms. Hayek launched her own line of beauty products in a partnership with CVS.  The line, called Nuance, includes hair, skin, and makeup products aimed at helping a woman "enhance the nuances that define her individual beauty," according to the Nuance website.  I've never been one to make a purchase based solely on the allure of a celebrity name.  However, if there's one thing I covet most about Salma Hayek, it would be her gorgeous hair.  So I decided to try the Quinoa Smooth and Shine Conditioner in the hopes that it would transform my dry mane.

I get mistaken for a teenager all of the time. This is somewhat awkward when I am out and about with my 7 year old daughter that is damn near as tall as me. It makes people think that I'm either her older sister or I had her when I was 8 years old. Awkward.

I'm telling you this because I would like to remain looking like a 14 year old, awkward as that may be for a mumble mumble-aged woman. I've never used moisturizers on my face daily and I thought it was about that time. But, as you should all know by now, I am cheap as all hell. I am the polar monetary opposite of Metric Jenn when it comes to how much I spend on myself. So instead of something fancy from ULTA or a department store, I walked into my local CVS and grabbed their version of Olay Complete for Sensitive Skin.

CVS Microwave Wax Hair Remover Kit: Deforestation of Your Face

I love to wax my own eyebrows. I know that is odd, but I really don't care. Perhaps that makes me a masochist, as I enjoy ripping out those stupid hairs that make me look like maybe my father was part werewolf and my mother was a bearded lady. I may be exaggerating. Maybe.

During my CVS spree the other day, I decided I needed to replace my old eyebrow waxing kit. The one that wouldn't melt anymore? Yes, that one. It was totally gross and probably more than a year old. I tossed it, ran my errands, and somehow remembered to replace it that same day. Miracles, people. They happen every day.

Further Detoxing Your Mani: CVS Biodegradable Formula Polish Remover

This summer I ran out of cotton balls and nail polish remover at the same time. So I headed down to the local CVS (see, I don't do all of my shopping at the natural food store). Luckily, the two items are shelved with each other and after I grabbed the triple-size organic cotton balls, my eye was drawn to a new product: CVS' Biodegradable Formula Polish Remover. In addition to being biodegradable, it's also a non-acetone polish remover, and the bottle says that they use 30% less plastic than acetone polish removers of similar size. On top of all that, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it's not tested on animals. Clearly, this product has Tamatha written all over it.

Hairspray That Holds Without Crunch? Unpossible!

I've never been a real girly-girl. While in high school I believed that carrying purses and wearing makeup were a patriarchal form of control and power over women, forcing them to sleep less than their male counterparts to apply colors to their faces and using additional brainpower to keep tabs on all of the crap they carry in their purses.

I didn't really get any dates in high school.

Ahem. Anyway! I don't use product in my hair on a daily basis, unless a rubber band counts. When I flat-iron my hair I use dry shampoo to avoid washing my hair for as long as hygienically possible afterward. I'm lazy. So when I actually needed to style my hair and have it stay in place for more than seven hours, I had to visit my local CVS and stare wide-eyed and slack-jawed at the many hair products lining their shelves.
