Punny Stuff In Here!

Pinky McLadybits

If you have not yet caught up on Game of Thrones, I would suggest skipping this story about the Battle of Blackwater episode. It is an in-depth look at an episode that many fans looked forward to with trepidation, only to be blown away like so many SPOILER! (GQ)

I hope you have some tissues handy because it is about to get super dusty up in here. Many LGBTQ kids have been disowned by disapproving parents. These 40 Moms (and one Dad!) have gathered together to serve as parental figures for those without loving parents for the holidays. (Your Holiday Mom)

Phew. *sniffle* I'd like to make you giggle now with Hawkeye being drawn in various poses held by female superheroes. You know, boobs out, butt out, back arched, possibly missing limbs or ribs. (The Hawkeye Initiative)

Rusty's Gifting Anti-Rules

Rusty

Holiday Rules to Break

A lot of advice comes out around the holiday season about what you should or shouldn’t get some people. Some of it is sound, but a lot of it seems to take the preferences of some women and apply it to ALL women. There’s nothing that can replace knowing the woman (or girl) you’re purchasing gifts for and having clear lines of communication on what they’re interested in for Christmas. But the world is imperfect, we have to buy gifts for people we don’t see often, and sometimes these ‘rules’ seem to indicate that all the gift ideas you have are WRONG. So instead of making a list of rules that would only apply to specific women, these are my anti-rules:

So, um, Adam Lambert got picked up by the po-po for beating up his boyfriend.  In Finland. Also, I have to thank dlisted for giving Adam Lambert the amazing new nickname of Glamberace.  It's beyond perfect.  (dlisted)

North Korean dictator Kim Jong-Il died on a train last Saturday.  Or did he?  Dun dun dun.  (Gawker)

I couldn't help but smile at this adorable letter to Santa Claus, written in 1911 and found decades later in a Dublin chimney.  (BoingBoing)

I may not be having casual sex right now.  Or ever.  But for those of you who are, here's Awkwardette's Ill-Advised Guide to Getting It On: Intuitive Sexing to hold your hand as you venture down that (dirty, dirty) path.  (Persephone Magazine)

Gifts For Randoms: Ladies You Barely Know Edition

Pinky McLadybits

Ah, the holidays. When we get to spend time with family and friends, anxiously waiting to see if that perfect present thrills the recipient like we hoped it would, eating until we burst, getting roped into the office Yankee Swap or drawing the name of the smelly dude in accounting for the office party gift exchange, being guilted into buying presents for acquaintances and mailmen...Good times.

I'm here to help! Here are some gifts under $20 for those people that you feel obligated to buy for, but you don't really have any idea what to get them. Today we focus on the ladies.

Gifts You SHOULD NOT BUY FOR ANYONE. NO.

Pinky McLadybits

Someone always does it. You spend time carefully choosing the perfect gift for someone. You attempt to buy something that isn't pre-packaged and shitty for your family's or office's Yankee Swap. Alas, you go home with an opened package of Reese's Cups and a set of garish holiday mugs. That's some horseshit right there.

So, I give you a list of things that you should never purchase for someone (unless they specifically ask for it or you hate them), avoiding being The One That Sucks At Gifts.

Gifts Rusty Wants: She's Crafty

Rusty

I was going to try and come up with some way to categorize this list, but the combination of items and interests it represents are, as far as I know, pretty specific. However, on the off chance you know another tech dabbling crafty lady with a stealth desire to be pampered and showered with sparkly things, this list may prove useful.

Metric Jenn Deserves ALL the Gifts.

Metric Jenn

It's mid-November as I write this, and no snow has fallen here in Canada, which is almost unheard of. So when Pinky McLadybits mentioned Christmas, my reaction was along these lines:

And then I realized that the running list in my head of ALL the things that I want to buy could be compiled into the world's most expensive Christmas list. I make no bones about it. I like the finer things, and have no guilt about spending vast quantities of money on myself. Because I'm worth it, dammit. Plus, other people should start recognizing that I'm worth it, too.

So please peruse this list I've compiled of things that you all should ask for if you have the same taste as I do, because you all are worth it, too. Or feel free to peruse and then laugh hysterically at how some people are willing to spend their hard earned cash.

Pinky's Gimme List: What To Buy For The Geek Woman In Your Life

Pinky McLadybits

We thought we would put together lists of gifts we would each love to receive for Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Ramadan, or whatever you celebrate. I'm sure you know someone like me, or like Metric Jenn, or Figgy, or Lainey, or any of us. And for that reason, we present our individual gift guides. I hope they help you out during your particular holiday season. HERE WE GO!

You know me. I'm a little cheap (but only because my husband has forced me to be), I love Batman, movies, books, and lots of other things. I love expensive things but I so rarely get them unless they are gifts. As such, I ask for expensive gifts. Mostly of the nerd/geek variety.
