CBRIV: Book#9: The Concubine's Gift by K. Ford K.

Pinky McLadybits

I won this Kindle version of K. Ford K.'s book The Concubine's Gift by replying in time to a Cannonball Read email. I had no expectations or any sort of idea concerning what this book would be about.

I can tell you that a book that begins with the sound of the clicking heels of long dead child prostitutes hasn't exactly ended in the place I thought it would. Not even close. I'm 100% certain I never expected a "sexual psychic" and a town called Valentine to be the subject of this book.

Pinky Made the Mistake of Letting Me Have Free Reign with Today's Hot Links

Tamatha

It's summer, (maybe not technically, but come on, it's summer) which means it's time for all that summer reading you want to do.  Perhaps you are looking for some recommendations?  This collection should keep you busy. (NPR)

OK, while I was looking for that link, I found this fascinating story about Dorothy Parker and how her ashes came to be interned at NAACP's headquarters in Baltimore. (NPR)

One more link for book recommendations (you know your book stack isn't quite high enough, because it hasn't toppled over and trapped you yet).  Last year, I coordinated Cannonball Read III for Pajiba, and the Cannonballers came up with this great list of the best books they read for CBR-III. Cannonball Read IV: Book#1: A Dance With Dragons by George R.R. Martin

Pinky McLadybits

I know it was mentioned here before, but Pajiba has a yearly Cannonball Read where Pajibans and others compete to read 53 books in a year. You must read the books and then post reviews of those books. You don't win anything other than bragging rights, but those are always good for more than one use.

This year I chose to do a shorter Cannonball, since my duties with cross-stitching, being Head Bitch here at Hot Ink, and taking care of my family leave me a lot less reading time than years past. As such, A Dance With Dragons is the first book I've picked up and the first book I've completed. All 900+ pages.

Since this is one of many books in a series, there will likely be spoilers from this point on. You've been warned, Sweetlings!
