Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen SPF30: You Did The Best You Could

Pinky McLadybits

Full disclosure: I was selected by Influenster to receive a Summer Voxbox filled with products to review. I will be reviewing them whether I find them awesome or terrible.

Summertime. I thought perhaps we could remain in that little bubble of sunshine without humidity we had been enjoying. Alas, it was not meant to be and the heat was in full force on July Fourth this year. So much so that I was forced to wear my bathing suit and lounge in a small pool to stay cool. Since I usually stay in the shade, this meant I needed some sunscreen.

Obviously, I chose the wrong SPF level with Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen SPF30. I am fair-skinned and the sun is hot and full of burning. That's not the sunscreen's fault, though. It is fully my fault.

Hawaiian Tropic's website boasts "broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection, and 12-hour moisturization when out in the sun" as well as silk proteins, antioxidants, and botanicals in the Silk Hydration. That sounds really good, but I don't know how I can test the veracity of those statements and ingredients. I'll try!

Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen SPF30 (PHEW!) smells really good. It is a tropical, flowery scent with less of the coconut smell I associate with tanning beds and more of the scent of a comforting after-sun lotion. I could sniff it all day long and be pleased with the smell.

Happily, it does feel more like a lotion and less like a greasy sunscreen. Most sunscreens tend to linger on your hands or body, making you feel like katamari damacy with all of the debris you pick up. Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen SPF30 absorbs quickly and leaves just the scent and no stickiness or residue. It is a lovely thing.

As I am an idiot, I only applied the sunscreen to my arms, chest, and back and forgot my pasty legs and my bangs-and-sunglasses-covered face. My legs received the worst of the sunburn and my arms were spared any burn at all. My chest and back were less burned than my legs, making the SPF30 a success in my book, as I also forgot to reapply. I'm hopeless. The Hawaiian Tropic Silk Hydration Lotion Sunscreen SPF30 did its job in my book and it was sheer user idiocy that kept me less than protected. I would recommend it to people that usually shy away from the thick, sticky, uncomfortable sunscreens on the market and prefer something lovelier and more lotion-like for their needs.

Rating: 6/8 tentacles
