EverStyle Curl Activating Mousse: More Like NeverStyle

MelBivDevoe

I tend to stick to the John Frieda line of curl products.  They've served me well over the years.  But the last time I went to pick up some curl activating mousse, I strayed from my usual stuff to try L'Oreal's EverStyle version instead.  Why?  For the simplest of reasons: I had a coupon.  And, sure, it sounded good.  It promised to give me full, bouncy curls without frizz and without the nasty stickiness that so many hair products produce.

When, when, WHEN will I learn that cheaper isn't always better?  That sometimes paying for better quality is worth it?

I guess I'm just slow sometimes.

The EverStyle mousse is 100% vegan and alcohol-free, according to its label.  Well, good for L'Oreal, I guess.  I apply the mousse to damp hair, as I always do, and normally I blow dry just enough so that my hair isn't dripping, then I let it air dry.  (This is why I don't wash my hair every day, but every other day - it takes hours to dry this way.  Blow drying isn't much faster - still takes over an hour to blow dry.  Thick hair is a burden, y'all.)  But it doesn't matter how much I blow dry or air dry - every time I use this mousse, my hair ends up sticky and stiff.  Whatever ingredient they used to replace the alcohol apparently has the same effects.  I don't know about you, but I don't want crunchy curls!

The mousse does control frizz... by weighing your hair down.  Even after it's dry, my hair looks wet.  And it manages to make my hair look flat - this mousse could be marketed as an "anti-volume" solution.

Oh, and it stinks.  If you go to L'Oreal's website, under the product description, the phrase used most often in customer reviews is "please use another scent it smells cheap."  I'm not kidding.
That is not positive feedback.

And this stuff doesn't last very long.  By the end of the day, my curls are wilting.  By the next morning, they're lifeless, barely wavy.  My hair doesn't feel stiff after 24 hours, but I don't want soft, slightly wavy hair, I want soft curls!  I don't have the time or want to put in the effort to have to style my hair every day - I'm not that dedicated - and the EverStyle mousse does nothing to help me in that department.

Overall, I'm super disappointed in EverStyle Curl Activating Mousse.  After being delighted by their EverPure Conditioner, I thought L'Oreal was on a roll with this line.   Ah well.  Next time, I will just stick to what works!

I'm giving the mousse a 2 out of 8 tentacles, because my curls look nice for about 2 hours.  Nice, but wet, and heavy.  Bleurgh.  It retails for around $6.99 a bottle and can be found in stores like Walgreens.

Rating: 2/8 tentacles
