CBRIV: Book#11: Thirteen by Kelley Armstrong

Pinky McLadybits

This book is the (thus far) very last book in Armstrong's Women of the Otherworld series. It is the thirteenth book, fittingly, and brings all of the characters from previous installments together again to fight a Big Bad. This series, if you are unfamiliar, has werewolves, witches, sorcerers, necromancers, vampires, zombies, angels, demons, half-demons fathered by Lord Demons, and regulatory bodies for the supernatural. All of this is hidden from humans.

There will be mild spoilers.

I won't really go into all of what happened in the previous book, because I can't quite remember the specifics of what happened without getting confused. There are a lot of callbacks to previous books in Thirteen. I can tell you that there are a group of supernaturals that think revealing themselves to humans is a neato idea and another group that thinks it is a pretty shit idea. Each side is kind of stupid and our regular cast of supernatural characters need to intervene to save everyone.

I don't want to give you a breakdown of this book exactly either. I tried typing some of the stuff out, but it just sounds so idiotic when you toss it out watered down. I mean, explaining that a werewolf is married to a half-demon who feeds off of chaos and that she is pregnant with their baby is kind of weird, right? But when you read the whole series, it makes sense in the universe that Armstrong has created and you are rooting for Karl and Hope (their names).

Basically, the people that want supernaturals to reveal themselves are working on a virus that will infect people with immortality. This virus is imperfect and the supernaturals in our book don't want it to happen. Not to mention the fact that some of the Lord Demons are against it and some are for it, so you have them popping up.

I know how that sounds. Just do me a favor and get Bitten, the first book in the series. You'll love Elena Michaels. She's a kickass woman that will draw you into a series that you will enjoy until the end. Or is this the end? (SPOILER: The author says it probably isn't...)
