It's hard to believe that one year ago, we launched Hot Ink. We started as an idea between friends that already loved sharing opinions on what products they liked, which ones they were indifferent about, and which ones they loathed completely. We wanted to share our special brand of reviews with the masses, so Hot Ink was born.

We've lost and gained some writers, changed our focus, tried out some things that worked so well that they eclipsed our purpose, and tried out some things that didn't work so well.

We can only hope that you have all been entertained along the way. We thank you for sticking with us, or choosing to read us, or for commenting, sharing, or liking us. It is appreciated.

Still there? Okay. WHO WANTS SOME FREEEEEEEBIEEEEEEES??!? Alas, there can be ONLY ONE.

Here's the deal: comment on this post with either your favorite writer, favorite review, or even favorite product by midnight EST on Saturday, September 8. A winner will be chosen at random by one of those generator dealies and you will receive:

Good luck!

  1. Pick a favorite writer? That's unpossible! But I love love love Clinique's Black Honey Almost Lipstick, and I would NEVER have bought such a thing without your review. So thanks!

  2. I've been reading since the beginning. You guys have taught me about stuff I didn't even know I needed. Like eye shadow primer! I didn't know that was a thing, and I was always frustrated about how my eye shadow got stuck in the creases of my greasy eyelids. Problem is now solved! Thanks to Rusty I am now a Urban Decay addict. Keep up the great work!

  3. Happy Anniversary, ladies.
No particular fave: mostly i have bookmarked a large (and growing) collection of "reviews" (and craft projects, and...), but I do really like the video try-outs and tutorials.
Well done, and here's to many more celebrations!

  4. I have purchased, or not, a number of products because of the reviews but my favorite has been the moisturizer Metric Jenn wrote about, Hawaiian Tropic's After Sun Lime Coolada Totes agree with every thing she wrote about it.

    Thanks, Hot Ink! Happy birthday!

  5. Oh, and I love the reviews on shampoos because my hair has decided to wage war against me and create this awful buildup because it's an asshole.

  6. My favorite review was Mel's review of John Frieda's hair dye because as a person who has thick hair and also likes dark red dye, it was great to read about a dye that was easy to apply by yourself and I'd only need one box. Seriously, I bought it because of the review alone.

  8. Oh, there is no way I could pick a favourite. All I know is, my life is better for my Lash Stiletto mascara, Black Honey lip gloss, and Colour Burst lip balm. And instructional make-up videos are awesome. Thanks, ladies! Happy birthday!

  9. Figgy's Perfume Carousel of Madness articles are my favorites.

If I have to pick my favorite of the two, I'll go with:
Figgy's Perfume Carousel of Madness 2: Eclectic Boogaloo

That said, don't make me pick a favorite writer. I CAN'T DO IT!

  10. I just started painting my nails again after years (YEARS) of leaving them blank, so all the info on How To Make Them Not Awful has been helpful. Sally Hansen VitaSurge Strength Gel here I come!

  11. I love the makeup reviews, especially the ones for mascara--I have no clue what kind to use on a regular basis, but the Rimmel review inspired me to go test a few!

  12. Fave review is easily Cepaphil face wash. BRILLIANT. After reading that review I stopped using the awful apricot scrub and am a total convert. A face wash I don't have to use water to wash off? The perfect product for a low maintenance (or you know, sometimes kinda lazy) lady like me.

Keep on keepin' on, lady folk. You're doing good work.
