Blemish Bee-Gone? Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish Stick

Metric Jenn

Writer's block is a total bitch. I'm just throwing that out there. I've been trying to write this review for hours now, and have more than once resorted to Homer Simpson's writing method of asking the dog for advice. Unfortunately, I cannot say that this product is "ruff", nor "grrrrr".

Winter is a horrible season for my skin. Particularly because I live in a northern climate with high windchill, cold air, and blowing snows. A five minute wait at the bus stop can lead to dry, flaking skin for a week, which in turn leads to breakouts (for me, though of course everyone's skin reacts differently).

I was in my neighbourhood Shopper's Drug Mart picking up a few items (cheap shampoo, razor blades and the like) when I stumbled upon a display case of Burt's Bees products. Up until then, my only experience with Burt's Bees was from the lip balm, which I found to be alright. Nothing special, but better than using vaseline that's been sitting in your cabinet for the past 8 years and has suspicious hairs in it.

I read the packaging for Burt's Bees Herbal Blemish Stick at the store, and was compelled to try it. Why not, I asked myself. It's only 10$, and it's not like I could get any greasier...
...Or could I?
The instructions say to use the blemish stick after cleansing face, applying to blemishes as often as needed. The ingredients listed are all natural extracts, alcohols and oils, which gives the liquid a very strong medicinal smell. Upon application, it felt tingley and fresh. Like a mint on my face. It ended up diminishing a lot of inflammation and redness, but didn't destroy all the blemishes. It certainly isn't a miracle cure for acne.

All in all, this is a good product - it helps calm zits down, and doesn't scorch your skin with a gazillion chemicals (what the? Am I turning into a hippie?? I dare-say that I'm usurping Tamatha and Dixie's area of expertise). I magnanimously bestow this product with a 5/8 tentacles. It loses a couple of tentacles for price, strong smell, and the tendency for dry skin to appear if used too often.

Rating: 5/8 Tentacles

  2. Also, I'm pretty sure, Dixie would just tell you to put some tea tree oil on your blemishes.
