Revlon ColorBurst Lip Butter: As Smooth as...Wait, That's too Easy

Tamatha

A couple of weeks ago, CVS gave me a coupon for $3 off a Revlon make-up purchase. Those bastards actually figured out one of my weaknesses (took 'em long enough). So last week, before the coupon expired, I took myself to the Revlon section of my local CVS. I briefly considered the nail polishes, but nothing caught my eye, and to be honest, when I received the coupon, I pretty much knew I'd be picking up a lip color of some sort.

As I've mentioned previously, I have a thing for lip stuff. On top of that, I recently went through a lipstick/gloss/tinted balm purge. I cannot tell you how long I'd had some of those lip things, but let's just say that Melody would have been beyond horrified. So clearly, I was overdue on restocking my lip color collection.

I was drawn to the display of the new ColorBurst Lip Butter, which they describe as "buttery balm + shiny color." I had had luck with a previous moisturizing lipstick Revlon used to make, their Renewist Lipcolor (do not tell Melody I still wear the tube I bought a few years ago), so I was hopeful that a product they refer to as a lip balm would work equally well for me. The fact that the packaging said that it contained mango, shea, & cocoa butter only helped sell me on this lipstick that sounded like it really would moisturize my lips.

Ladies (and cross-dressing gentlemen), this stuff feels amazing! Seriously, I just wanted to wear it all the time. It is delightfully rich and creamy and really does feel a lot like a lip balm. I decided to wear it to work the next day, that's how excited I was by it. And although I did notice some feathering and that annoying thing where the color abandons the center of my lips and just hangs out at the edges, making me look like some sort of lip liner addict, I was mostly pleased with the results. (Honestly, with my lip balm addiction, I sometimes wonder if lip products just don't work for me they way they work for other people. I'm either the worst lipstick tester or the best due to these messed-up lips of mine.)

I picked a color called Pink Truffle, which may be a bit closer to my natural lip color than I would otherwise go for, but it does mean that I can wear it and still have a more natural look, hence feeling comfortable wearing it to work. And since I went with a more neutral color, it meant I could apply it as frequently as I do my lip balm and not worry that I was starting to look like Tammy Faye Baker. And although it does have some shine, it's not super glossy.

If you are in the market for a new lipstick and you want something that will feel luxurious on your lips, I absolutely recommend Revlon's ColorBurst Lip Butter. It's smooth, creamy, and lovely feeling.

I give it 7 out of 8 tentacles. It loses one tentacle for that bit of feathering/lip liner-ing, though I'm guessing on normal lips, it might not do either.

Rating: 7/8 tentacles

  1. Tamatha, you beautiful mind-reader--I had seen ads for this "buttery balm" stuff and was hoping you guys would review it. I was even going to put in a request! I'm so excited that it's as nice as it sounds. As soon as I get back from my field work trip, I am treating myself to some girly lip stuff! Wheee!
