Black Hotstory Month: Because I Couldn't Come Up With a Better Title

Rusty

It’s black history month and as while most of us here are out of school and no longer required to do book reports on the likes of Dr.Ben Carson or Madam CJ Walker, we wanted to do something in the spirit of the month. Because we are a shallow bunch of wenches, that ‘something’ turned out to be this very special Black History Month themed edition of Hump Day. This is but a small selection, and as always you’re welcome to share your personal picks in the comments:

If you look past the baseball cap, saggy jeans, and oversized tee shirts Pharrell Williams tends to wear when he performs, you’ll see a man with stunning bone structure, a gorgeously mischievous smile and a voice is smooth as silk. He’s talented, successful, driven, and he looks pretty damn good in a suit as well.

I suspect that “CSI: Original Flavor” had such high ratings for so long because of the presence of Gary Dourdan. Tall, muscular, and those eyes. I’m sure there were plenty of viewers who would have been more than happy to let CSI Warrick Brown cuff them and take them anywhere he wanted.

Anthony Mackie has been on the rise in the last few years and that is only a good thing. The slender actor has a screen presence and charisma that’s hard to match and as anyone who saw The Adjustment Bureau knows, he can wear the hell out of a fedora. Also, his interviews have shown him to have a great sense of humor and an infatuation with Ryan Gosling, something we can all related to.

Back when “Flash Forward” still existed, the minute I gave up on the show was the minute that Lee Thompson Young’s character (uh, spoiler) left it. The young actor who had previously been known as “The Famous Jett Jackson” was a beauty and I was thrilled to see him turn up again in “Rizzoli and Isles” though he doesn’t get nearly enough screen time for my liking. Hopefully he’ll get a leading role soon because in addition to being extremely easy on the eyes, he’s got great comedic timing.

Viola Davis has been getting a lot of attention since her turn in The Help but the question on my mind was never “what will she do next” but “how could anyone cast this woman as a maid?” But then again, if an utterly blind casting director hadn’t placed this stone cold fox in that role, we’d be missing out on her luminous red carpet presence now and that would be a real tragedy. She’s got three pictures in production, so it won’t be the last we see of her by a long shot.

It seems like Michael B. Jordan has been growing up before the eyes of television viewers since his role in “The Wire” and it’s very clear that the boy is growing up extremely well. His big goofy smile is infectious and while the show may be off the air he’s been keeping himself in top “Friday Night Lights” shape for all his public appearances.

  1. Gina Torres. Especially as Zoe on Firefly, but really in anything. Taye Diggs. Who needs to never wear a shirt, and keep being totally sweet to his wife, Idina Menzel.

  2. Your paragraph about Lee Thompson Young describes how I feel about him exactly.

Also, I might add Damon Wayans, Jr. and Donald Glover for sexy comic relief.
