Nailed It?: Sally Hansen VitaSurge Strength Gel

Pinky McLadybits

I've been painting my nails, removing that polish, painting them again, and again. And again. That is very not good for your nails, I suspect. The last polish I wore, OPI Gone Gonzo, was peeling right off my fingers for some reason, one day after application. Instead of removing the polish properly, I proceeded to pick and peel at it over the course of a 4 hour Hangout with MetricJenn.

SMRT!

I was left with brittle, peeling nails for my troubles. I decided to pick up some nail strengthener while waiting for my prescription at Target yesterday. I grabbed Sally Hansen VitaSurge Strength Gel because it is blue. Seriously. That was my big selling point. SMRT!

The website tells me that the "Multi-active bead infused formula instantly releases a surge of nourishing Vitamins C & E for stronger, more resilient nails". Okay! Those sound like good things! I like beads and vitamins! The product also promises stronger nails in 5 days. We will see, won't we?

Application involves lightly shaking the bottle for some reason and then using the sponge-tipped applicator to massage the gel into your nails. I spread the gel with the applicator and then use my fingers to massage it in. It massages in quickly and easily, leaving no residue or color behind. And it isn't sticky and it smells fine. Which is another bonus.

The five day promise is not just a bunch of bullshit, my lovely readers. Five days was really all that it took to heal the damage I could see on my nails. They were peeling and cracking. I did break a nail by catching it on the corner of the refrigerator, which no strengthening gel outside of Adamantium Brand would have helped. When I went to clip my nails to uniform lengths, I had some trouble because the nails were already strengthened so much. That is very good.

I am very happy with this Sally Hansen VitaSurge Strength Gel. Which is a relief. I thought I was going to have to bandage every finger until the nails were less ugly and brittle. That would have made washing my hands a nightmare. Ew.

  1. This is *very* helpful! For Christmas, I did a nail polish job that involved six (yes, 6!) coats of polish: three of color, two of glitter, and one top coat. Needless to say, the removal process did a number on my nails. So, knowing that there is a product out there that might actually help them is good to know!
