Gifts For Randoms: Ladies You Barely Know Edition

Pinky McLadybits

Ah, the holidays. When we get to spend time with family and friends, anxiously waiting to see if that perfect present thrills the recipient like we hoped it would, eating until we burst, getting roped into the office Yankee Swap or drawing the name of the smelly dude in accounting for the office party gift exchange, being guilted into buying presents for acquaintances and mailmen...Good times.

I'm here to help! Here are some gifts under $20 for those people that you feel obligated to buy for, but you don't really have any idea what to get them. Today we focus on the ladies.

1. A Scarf

Scarves are very fashionable and practical. Some people wear scarves all year long, inside, outside, when they dress up or when they're just running errands. You cannot miss with scarves (Pinky is not to blame if you totally miss with scarves

Most of the time scarves are priced ridiculously, but 'tis the season for discounts! Check out the selection at Kohl's, all under $20. Old Navy has scarves for under $20, sale or no.

2. Earth Therapeutics Foot Doctor Pedicure Kit

I know that toiletry items are a real risk, but this set just says, "Hey, girl. I think your feet might be tired from all that hard work you do. Take this pedicure set and use it to get your feet feeling as fresh as the rest of you looks." (The pedicure set is Baby Goose) It's totally inoffensive (unless you give it to some real Asshole)

3. Candles

Candles are great! Unless you're allergic to the smoke, then re-gift them shits. But everyone else LOVES THEM! You can get tons of candles at Bath & Body Works for under $20. Even the huge 4-wicked bastards! There are also lots of scents for everyone! Hot Buttered Rum for MetricJenn! Dark Chocolate Mint for Lainey! Spiced Apple Toddy for Napoleanita! Cranberry Pear Bellini for Kolby! And so on!

4. Starbucks Salted Caramel Hot Cocoa Mix

Everyone likes Starbucks even if they hate Starbucks. Their coffee can be  a crapshoot in gift-giving, but hot cocoa? Salted caramel hot cocoa? Only someone that hates sunshine and puppies could hate that! If you were feeling generous you could even throw in a mug bonus, as this cocoa is only $6.49.

5. eos Lip Balm

Everyone gets flaky lips in the winter. As I've said before, I love eos Lip Balm. It is inexpensive, lasts, comes in a cute container and in fun scents, and it works. You could get two or three of these for someone or one per person in a little gift bag or basket with other stuff.

6. Homemade Cookies or Candy

Like the Salty Caramel Oat Bars from Cookies and Cups. Or White Chocolate Pretzel Fudge from Buns In My Oven. Or Pillsbury slice and bake cookies. Whatever. Just know that baked good are generally appreciated, easy to do and inexpensive.

What are some ideas you have for gifts for the ladies you barely know?

  1. My awesome boss gave all the ladies in my office a nice bottle of wine this year. Of course, she knows that we're all lushes, so it was a no-brainer gift idea for her.

  2. My default gift for women: gift sets from Body Shop or Bath and Body Works. It's probably cliche as hell, but I think it's safe to say that most chicks dig a nice bath gel or lotion or whatever. And if they don't...well, they make for awesome regifting.

Men are kind of a pain for me, though. I think I usually go with shirts.

  3. Also: Please don't give me candles. My extremely sensitive nose is super picky about them and most of them give me a headache.

That being said, Bath and Body Works has some amazing woodsy-smelling ones that I plan on buying.
