"Well, I want to go to Bombay, India and become a movie star.": OPI Gone Gonzo!

Pinky McLadybits

It was a tough decision. One of the toughest decisions I've made all week. I didn't flinch when I decided last-minute to get bangs today. No hesitation when I snatched up crawfish for jambalaya tonight without a thought beforehand. No regrets about eating that brownie sundae right before bed last night. But this? This was tough. How do you choose which of the OPI Muppets polishes to buy? HOW??

I was at ULTA to get my hair cut (see decision to get bangs, made in the car on the way to my appointment) and what greeted me as I entered? An OPI Muppets display! I damn near squeed in the front of the store. I knew then that I would be leaving with a new haircut and some new polish.

The real problem was: which color do I get? They were out of Rainbow Connection, unless you bought a two pack of full-size polishes that came with toe dividers for a pedicure. Nah. They had a set of minis that were in mostly boring colors, so a no to that as well. The Fresh Frog of Bel-Air was cute, but too green for me. At least, today it was too green. Ask me again after I encounter the sparkly polish in another store.

Divine Swine is lovely, but it wasn't what shouted to me. Gone Gonzo was the one. Blue is my favorite color. Gonzo is AWESOME. Sparkles are my favorite right now and there are large silver glitter rounds mixed in as well. SOLD. To me. For $8.50.

The first coat is only enough for a blue shimmer with large, silver flecks here and there. If you want your nail to look anything like the one on the OPI site, you'll be applying many coats.

One coat.

Two coats.

As you can see, not even close to the deep, sparkly blue depicted on the site. How many coats to get to the color advertised? Three coats was as many as I was willing to slather on, but you could still see bare nail in some spot if the light hit things just right. However, the polish is adorable!
Three coats.

It gives tons of sparkle, with the combo of tiny blue and large silver glitter, and would be fun to wear daily or to a holiday party. I do like it quite a bit! I am disappointed that it takes so much to make my nails look comparable to what is advertised, though I'm only extracting a point for that. One point for price, as I am cheap, though if you are not, add a point!

Next time I'll probably apply a white base and two coats of the Gone Gonzo on top. Or one coat and then use a nail art pen to draw snowmen on each nail and SNOWGLOBE NAILS! Yes, I am an insane person.

  1. SNOWGLOBE NAILS! I love it! In high school I used to do crazy designs like that all the time. Haven't tried in years. Totally do it!

  2. As soon as I figure out how to get Gone Gonzo off my nails, I'm doing some sort of nail art!
