Dry Me Out: Oscar Blandi Dry Shampoo

Author: Rusty

Now I realize it will damage my reputation as a glamorous internet personality to admit this, but there are days when I maybe don’t get around to washing my hair. Or changing out of pajama pants. And then realize (inevitably, half an hour before the store closes) that I’m out of some vital bit of food, drink, liquor, whatever. So what’s a girl to do? How to leave the house in under five minutes without looking like I’ve been rubbing Crisco into my hair all day? This is why I purchased Oscar Blandi dry shampoo and why I’m here to tell you not to.

I picked up the dry shampoo on a trip to Sephora once because it was in the little impulse buy barriers near the cash register. I was looking for a dry shampoo to replace the rather white-trash substitute I’d been working with, which was sprinkling baby powder into my part and hairline. The spray actually feels heavy and kind of damp when you put it in your hair and no amount of waiting for it to dry or brushing it in has ever been able to eliminate that feeling. It provides some temporary change in the condition of my hair, but it doesn’t last long and it certainly doesn’t provide any volume the way the container says it should. I’ve even tried applying it and then blow drying my hair upside down before brushing it to try and get it to give me at least an evening worth of effectiveness but no dice; this banishes the greasies for a couple hours but no more.

Contrast this with baby powder (or more specifically the corn starch in baby powder) which fluffs my hair up, eliminates all traces of grease from my hair line, and which lasts all evening. Downsides to that, though, are that it dulls my hair and can create a graying effect where it’s been applied. And I smell like baby powder all day. The Oscar Blandi is colorless so that is a point in its favor. Also, it smells nice in a non-baby powder kind of way.

I’d rate this product a 2 out of 8 tentacles. It’s good for quick trips, blends into hair without obvious dullness or discoloration, and smells nice. However, for the price I’d expect it to be more effective at getting rid of grease than a sprinkle of baby powder which is far cheaper.

Rating: 2/8 tentacles

I just use corn starch. Works like a charm and cheap as hail.
