Godiva Solid Shampoo: For the Vain Earth Goddess

Author: Rusty

I think most people out there are generally in favor of being friendly to the earth and are willing to give environmentally friendly products a shot with one large caveat; they have to work comparable to the less environmentally friendly ones we’ve grown used to. I don’t mean to sound shallow, but I’m probably not the only woman out there who is uncomfortable with the idea of greasy, dirty hair no matter how noble the reason. Enter Lush Cosmetics.

I’d been familiar with Lush since some point in college when a friend tipped me to the website, but I became a full on believer when I was doing a study abroad in Europe and traveling nearly every weekend. Lush’s solid shampoo and conditioner meant that I didn’t have to check my bag in order to bring enough shampoo and conditioner to last me more than a day with me. One of my favorite solid shampoos is Godiva, a shampoo puck with cocoa butter and an intoxicating jasmine scent.

My hair is fine, dead straight, flat, and starts to look greasy around the roots the minute I pass 24 hours since showering. The ends, however, are prone to dryness especially in the winter. Godiva shampoo is great at getting my hair squeaky clean but not drying it out too much. After showering my hair is soft and shiny without additional products. It lathers beautifully and smells fantastic if you happen to like jasmine, which I do. The site promotes it as a two in one shampoo and conditioner bar, and it’s not moisturizing enough that I don’t have to use a conditioner afterwards but those with hair not as prone to dryness might be able to.

Using the solid shampoo takes a little getting used to; you rub the shampoo puck over wet hair and then use your fingers to lather it. I guarantee that the first time you use it, you will rub too much solid shampoo on because it doesn’t lather until you get your hands into it and so it’s natural to assume that you don’t have enough on. It’s also a little harder to store than bottled shampoo since if it’s sitting somewhere that is damp the shampoo will turn gooey and wear down faster. It’s also pricey, $10.95 for one bar, but it lasts longer than most bottles of shampoo that I’ve had since you only need three or four swipes of it on damp hair to get your hair clean.

Godiva shampoo by Lush cosmetics is an effective and beautifully scented introduction to environmentally friendly bath products that takes a little getting used to, but is definitely worth a try if you can afford it.

I'd put it at a 6 put of 8 tentacles because it didn't get me pregnant behind the school and it is pricey, but I love it anyway.

  1. I have the same type of hair as you! I've been using the New! solid shampoo for a while now, which is great for volume and chasing away the oil, but can be a leeeetle too drying. I might switch to the Godiva when my current bar is done. Thanks for the write up! I love Lush, but the staff at the stores are so effusive about Every. Single. Product. that it can be difficult to figure out which ones will actually work for me.

  2. I know for sure that I have the same hair as Rusty and I'm absolutely getting this as soon as I can.
