Detox Your Mani: SpaRitual is taking O.P.I. to School

Author: Boo

Don't get me wrong: I love O.P.I. In fact, most of my nail polish collection--at least, the ones that matter--are O.P.I. I fell in love with O.P.I. at my favorite day spa, so I was shocked when I went in for my last mani/pedi and found that they had changed the entire line. No more O.P.I. !!!

But, they had traded out for another line that I am quickly falling into obsession with: SpaRitual.

This stuff is addictive, but for all the right reasons. It is vegan, animal friendly, formaldehyde and toluene free, and DBP free. (DBP is dibutyl-pthalate, and I had to look it up. I found this uber helpful site about the toxic chemicals in nail polish, if you're interested.)

As of this writing, I have tried several different shades of SpaRitual's nail polish line, and they are really fabulous. And I mean Fab.U.Lous. The sheer polish really is sheer, the opaque polish really is opaque (I mean, really truly opaque with one solid coat), and their sparkly polish has plenty of pizazz (yes I went there, welcome back to 1983), to make your jazz hands everything they should be! Add a smidge of their lovely top coat, and your mani isn't going anywhere for at least a week. That means no chips. None. At the most, the top edges of my most recent mani have worn down a little, but I've had no chipping.

My most recent purchase is a color called Death By Chocolate (pictured below), which I'm hoping will help free me from my intense chocolate cravings since I can look at this rich, luscious color on my nails instead. That, or I'll end up just eating my fingernails...

One of my big complaints about nail polish is that, once you take it off, you're usually left with yellowish discoloration on your bare nails since the polish was depriving them of oxygen. This is perhaps the best reason to use SpaRitual—I've never had yellow nails after removing these colors. Even the dark navy blue color (called Surreal) that I recently purchased and promptly fell into head over heels love has left me with healthy looking nails that don't look like they've been polished in years.

Check out these nails:

One thing I've definitely learned over the years is that you (mostly) get what you pay for, and that is true for nail polish as well. Maybe especially true for nail polish. SpaRitual isn't cheap, but if you care about the health of your nails, and you want a high-quality mani, then this should really be a go-to lacquer line.

I give SpaRitual nail polish a 7 out of 8 tentacles. Why not 8? Because it's a bit pricey. But it's worth it, so go buy one bottle rather than 3 bottles of Sally Hansen.

Happy lacquering!

Love,
Boo

  1. I rarely let my toenails go naked - because every time I remove my nail polish, they look yellow, so I hide them under another nail polish! If you haven't had a problem with that, then I'll definitely have to look into SpaRitual! Great review!
